Scrap Happy with Prickly Pear

I have to say, when I first saw the Prickly Pear paper in the Close to my Heart Seasonal Expressions May -August 2017 Idea Book, I wasn’t sure it would be for me. After all, I spend little time in the desert, my family does not have very much fiesta time, and I can’t say that I have signed onto all the awesome art that is currently going on using cactus themed inspiration. So I had made the decision that this would most likely be the paper I would not get around to producing artwork with. Oh, how I am laughing now! Once I removed the “one” piece of two sided cactus paper from this set, I was sold. And sold in such a happy and cheerful way. There was something about working with these papers that just made me happy. The bright colors and fun patterns jumped at me with little rays of sunshine spreading joy through my crafting time.

As you can see this paper is just jammed pack with the bright and cheery!

To create this layout I used a simple sketch from my craft arsenal! This particular layout is a favorite of mine because of its versatility and how quick it comes together. I particular love the CTMH paper packs for projects like this because I know that every page in the kit is going to match and it makes everything come together so quickly that I am producing beautiful pages in no time!

For the basic layout you will need the following:

Layout Cuts:

8 – 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 square cut coordinated paper pieces

2 – 1/2 x 8 1/2 decorative strips (the zip strips from the top of your CTMH B & T papers work perfect for this and add so much detail)

On this particular layout I started one inch from the top placing my first square one inch down and flush to the inside border. I then used this piece as my guide to place the other three squares on the page. Repeat this one the other page.

I then placed my 1/2 inch decorative strip and ran in under the bottom two squares completing this step for both pages.

That’s it! You have one layout all ready to hold 8 4 x 4 pictures.

Want to add a little something and deck out your layout. The options are endless but here are the additional cuts I used to create the layout as shown.

Artfully Sent Cricut Cuts –

Page 7, Cut the Icon Cup Cupcakes at 2 inches using Real Dial Size (this is the only cut on RDS so please remember to remove for your remaining cuts). I cut these out a couple of times so I could have a variety of patterns. I also cut them out using White Daisy and the multi cut feature to back them and give them more dimension. As well as backing them with a pattern paper scrap from the kit just to add more color. What can I say, I was hooked on the bright colors.

Page 7, Cut the Sentiment  shift featured card at 4.25 as noted and cut off the bottom sentiment “Let’s Celebrate” and attached to the bottom zip strip on the layout. I then cut a 4 x 4 square making sure to use the decorative cut out. I kept the cut stars and streamers and added for some pop.

Page 7, the Pocket Card featuring the saying “Good Times”, remove the verse and round the two cut corners, back in the colored paper of your choice, adhere with foam tape. Cut a 4 x 4 square from the remaining piece and round the two cut corners and create a double mat on your layout.

Add the Prickly Pear Sequins for some bling and shine and the “Happy Birthday” title created with the CTMH thing cuts layered with multiple cuts to create dimension.

I love the way this layout turned out and I have even made a couple duplicates layouts from this kit to give as a gift to a dear friend. The full item list is below for this project. Please note we are on our final days to snag some of these as they are currently, while supplies last.
